Hi, Talaera friend. My name is Paola. And this is a new Talaera Bit. Today, I'd love to teach you some great idioms to express that things are going well and that you're succeeding. And as usual, I created a little story, you know, and it's a fragment that includes many success idioms. How many? Well, that's your goal. Count how many you can hear. And you know, you can raise a finger, you can write them down, just remember the number because I will ask you right after the story. Now, as you know, this is not how we usually talk. But I always find these activities amusing. So just remember that idioms are very common in professional settings, but we should limit how many we use. All right. Are you ready? You're ago with the story?

Paola Pascual  1:16
Hey, Alex, thank you for helping me out with this project you saved the day. We've come a long way, haven't we? After being unemployed for over a year, we made a comeback. I still remember my first interview at my company. It was a tough process. So I thought it wouldn't make the cut. But I somehow rose to the occasion and got the job. And did he know I had applied twice before they called me. I guess third time lucky. You also hit the jackpot. You passed your certification with flying colors and found a job here, which was your dream city. And that's how you met me see what a win win? I know it wasn't easy. But would there's a will there's a way? Plus, I know you always land on your feet.

Paola Pascual  2:14
All right. That's the end of my story today. Lots of success idioms. So the question is, how many did you hear? How many? I cannot hear you. But I hope you said 11. That's how many I was able to fit in. Let's go over them.

Paola Pascual  2:33
The first one I mentioned was to save the day. And that is when someone makes a bad situation. And successfully. For example, just when things looked hopeless, my manager came along and saved the day. Right? They made this bad situation and in a good way. So to save the day.

Paola Pascual  2:56
The second one I included was to come a long way. And that is to make a lot of progress. In my story at the beginning I said Ah, we've come a long way, haven't we? You can also say it right? The world of it has come a long way. In the last 20 years, there's been a lot of progress.

Paola Pascual  3:22
The third one is to make a comeback. I like this one that is to achieve success. After failure or retirement, you didn't believe that you were able to make it things were looking poorly. And then you made a comeback. Right? You're backing track. Here's an example. I thought they were filing for bankruptcy. But they actually made a comeback. Great.

Paola Pascual  3:50
Number four is to make the cut. In my story. I was talking about this very difficult hiring process. And then I said well, I didn't think I would make the cut. It means I didn't think I would be among the options to continue. So yeah, to make the cut. If you actually make the cut, you avoid being eliminated. Here's another example. Their requirements to get in were very hard. But I still made the cut. For example, I'm going back to university soon. And it wasn't easy, but I'm so happy because I made the cut. It means I was accepted. Awesome. We're almost halfway through.

Paola Pascual  4:37
Idiom number five. To rise to the occasion means to show that you can actually deal with the difficult situations successfully. You say? I'm here and I can do it. Here's an example. No one was sure if he could handle the pressure of making a speech, but he rose to the yoke. Keishon and did an excellent job. Brilliant.

Paola Pascual  5:04
Number six, I set. Third time lucky, I'm sure there's a similar idiom in your native language. Third time lucky, you'll also hear Third time's a charm, depending on who where you are geographically. And that means that, you know, perhaps you've tried twice, but you believe that the third time will be successful. And here's another example. This is the second time I have failed the exam. But as they say, third time lucky in my story, I had applied twice, and they didn't call me but when I applied the third time, I did get their callback. That's when I said, third time lucky. Brilliant.

Paola Pascual  5:52
Number seven, to hit the jackpot. That is to have great or perhaps unexpected success, especially when you make a lot of money quickly, or you find exactly what you desired. It's when you get really, really lucky you hit the jackpot. For example, Anna hit the jackpot jackpot with her new job. It's basically her dream job, plus a huge salary. When you meet someone you really really like, for example, your your boyfriend or your girlfriend or your spouse, you can say, Oh, I hit the jackpot with them. That's something we often say.

Paola Pascual  6:34
Number eight with flying colors. This is when you excel when you pass a test or an exam easily or very successfully. For example, Silvia had passed her exams with flying colors, or in my story was talking about how Alex had passed his certification with flying colors.

Paola Pascual  6:56
Number nine, a win win situation. It's a result or a situation that is good for everyone who's involved. I'm sure you know this one, because it's a very common idiom. And here's another example. flexible working hours are a win win situation for employers and employees. At least that's what I think.

Paola Pascual  7:17
Number 10. Where there's a will, there's a way, it means if you are determined enough, you can find a way to achieve what you want, even if it's difficult. For example, no one believed we would make it but where there's a will, there's a way it means it wasn't easy, but we found the way to do it.

Paola Pascual  7:42
And the last one is to land on your feet. I said that Alex always lands on his feet. And it means when you are in a good situation when you're in good condition after having a bad or difficult experience. For example, I wouldn't worry about Alex, even in the most difficult situations, he always tends to land on his feet.

Paola Pascual  8:09
All right, those were the 11 success idioms that I wanted to share with you: to save the day, to come a long way, to make a comeback, to make the cut, to rise to the occasion, third time lucky (you'll also hear third time's a charm), to hit the jackpot, with flying colors, a win win situation, where there's a will there's a way, and the last one, to land on your feet. There's more. If you'd like to learn them, you can check the blog post that will add to the description. Or you can also type blog.talaera.com/idioms-success in your browser.
